Meet The Team
Paul Bowley was born in Brighton; growing up in Woodingdean he attended Rudyard Kipling Infants then Whitehawk Junior and Secondary schools. In 1980 Paul started work as a coffin maker with W A Stringer & Son in Kensington Gardens, G Newman in Trafalgar Street and Frank Davey of Hurstpierpoint; He moved to Hassocks to establish Bowley Funeral Service in 1999. Paul is a member of the SAIF National Executive Committee, and was their National President in 2017/2018. He has been a member of the Rotary Organisation since 1987.
Lauren McDowell joined the team at Bowley and Gallagher in 2017. She has lived in the area for over 25 years and has spent all her working years dealing with the general public, both in the travel industry and more recently in Pharmacy. Lauren is committed to supporting people facing difficult times and feels privileged to be working as a funeral arranger, helping families to organise the right funeral for a loved one.
Georgie Luxford joined the Bowley and Gallagher team on a part time basis in May 2018, having spent the previous two years managing an office for a large funeral company in Brighton. Georgie is married with two young boys who keep her on her toes. Before changing industries, Georgie worked for nearly 20 years in the hospitality sector in 5 star and country house hotels. Georgie is excited to have joined an independent family run business and looks forward to using her Brighton knowledge and building relations with the local community.
Sue Vickery started to work closely with us when we opened our premises in Burgess Hill in 2010. With a background in financial services, Sue is our Finance Director and Accounts Manager. As well as managing the company’s finances, she also works closely with local families arranging funerals in Brighton and is a specialist advisor for Golden Charter Independent Way Funeral plans.
Davina Docherty joined us in 2015, working closely with Patrick Gallagher and Paul on the stonemasonry side of the business. Davina previously worked for an American software company as their office manager. With her strong attention to detail and knowledge of administrative process, she is now training in administering stonemasonry. When she is not trekking around churchyards and cemeteries, Davina is based in our office in Burgess Hill
Michael Brett started work for us in 2008 as part of our bearing team and now works alongside Simon in our mortuary, workshops and garages. His local knowledge is without equal and attention to detail is second to none. Mike keeps a close eye on all our vehicles, as well as working alongside Mel on care of the deceased. Mike is often our hearse driver, leading the pallbearing team.
